Mindanao is indeed a paradise…
I live in a small town in Zamboanga del Sur named
Ramon Magsaysay. So small that you won’t even pay attention
to its existence. To others, well, even to us sometimes,
it's a slow progressing town, sleeping and a far cry from
the fast moving cities we usually admire. Muddy roads, rough
terrains, no bars and clubs, malls and chic hang-outs.
Indeed, boring. But to us it's a paradise. Our beloved
home we can find peace and tranquility that you won't find
in the city. It's a place that I always look forward to of
coming home again to enjoy once more the stillness, peace
and the security that it offers.
But, what now? It's all gone!
I received a text message from my father telling me how
panicky and terrorize they are. News spreading out that the
composite (elements) of MILF, J.I., and ABU SAYAF(s) will
attack any moment any barangays and municipalities in Zambo
Norte, Sur and Sibugay.
Now, you won't see people going out of their houses after 6
pm. It's like a ghost town night in and out. People panic
every time they see people that aren't familiar to them.
How chaotic Mindanao is that even our small
sleepy town can now feel its pangs.
I'm so worried (for) the safety of my family and friends
back home. You can't imagine how I feel that I am damn safe
here in Bohol and that people back home are not.
I couldn't understand why they are doing this. What for?
Power? Does that give them the license to take away
innocent lives? To bring terror to everyone?
Can't Muslims and Christians live in harmony? Can't love
and friendship prevail? Is it really hopeless? I pray not.
Let us all pray for these killings to stop. Let us pray for
the safety of these innocent people, for the soldiers
risking their lives. Let us pray that these people behind
all these chaos to realize how wrong their ways are. And
that love and forgiveness be in everyone's heart.
Let us not let this paradise become hell, for this is my
home, your home, everyone's home and we intend to keep it.
Let us all be reminded that we are of the same blood and
race.
Let my small voice ring out loud. SALAM be with you.
